Every year, almost 130 Ph.D. students with academic ability and competitive advantages in business have graduated from National Sun Yat-sen University. Most of the students’ first choice after they graduate is to enter the academic circles. But in nowadays, under the situation of sub-replacement fertility and the competitive talent grabbing from all over the world, it caused a serious challenge to the development and competitive strength of the industry in Taiwan. This situation has made talents with academic background become so popular today, they could help the enterprise make business transformation and new management tactics.

Ministry of Education implement 產學合作培育博士級研發人才計畫 by using two programs, the “Five-Year Master-Ph.D. Program” and “Four-year Ph.D. Program”. Thesis of students who are in these two programs have to do the study base on fix out the practical problems in the industry. The university and enterprise will set the teaching goals together to make sure students could learn the academic theory and the main point of enterprise development. The university will also try to endeavor the research grant from enterprises to build up Ph.D. students’ ability of research, development in practical situation, and cultivate talents with the enterprise. By building up Ph.D. student’s experience in academic and practical field, this could assist Ph.D. students in reaching the purpose of reducing the gap between what they have learned in school and what they could use in practical field after they graduate.

“The most difficult part is to find out the main problem of the enterprise precisely and swiftly, and then fix the problem by using professional framework.” Said  Wei-Ren Xiao,Ph.D. student in the Institute of Human Resource Management who had join the Industry-Academy Cooperation program cooperated by Weleader Biomedical Co., Ltd. and NSYSU. He also claimed that, to face all kinds of challenge, we need not only the theoretical knowledge, communication and coordination with the enterprise continuously, discussion problems with advisor frequently, but also need to have a heart filled with curiosity.
